For some reason I can't really explain, the multiple-cr problem went
away.  I think in the course of debugging it, I recompiled some files
that hadn't been recompiled when they needed to be (I've been having
problems with dosemu not keeping time, plus unzip preserves timestamps
(ick)).  I think everything has been recompiled (I touched the header)
so it works now.
