Hello. It turns out that C89 does not define __STDC_VERSION__, so we actually need to check that it's defined first. I'm using checks like this: #if (defined(__STDC_VERSION__) && __STDC_VERSION__ >= 199901L) \ || !defined(__STRICT_ANSI__) #endif /* (__STDC_VERSION__ >= 199901L) || !__STRICT_ANSI__ */ __STDC_VERSION__ was introduced in a 1994 update to the C standard.
