Subject: Naming packages in DSMs
Reply-To: djgpp-workers AT delorie DOT com

Hello.

I recently installed DJGPP on Windows NT using zippo. One thing I noticed is
that the GDB and Texinfo packages are called GDB and Texinfo. For the DSMs I
wrote for packages of earlier versions I called them gdb and texinfo.

Package names are currently matched exactly, so the case matters. So, for
example, you will not be able to upgrade from gdb 4.18 to GDB 5.1.1 using
zippo, since the GDB 5.1.1 has 'replaces: GDB < 5.1.1'.

Personally I think that packages should all be named in lowercase, because
having more than one case in package names is confusing for users. But more
importantly the DSMs should agree what names to use for packages.

What does everyone think?

Thanks, bye, Rich =]
