> Could it be that XP introduced some new feature for DOS deletions? I doubt it. I just tried 4DOS; its 'del' is definitely NOT Win32 based, and it works as expected. So far, only 'rm' seems to be affected. In fact, I just ran a 2.03-based emacs, and did C-x d (-> dired) M-! touch foo (-> creates 'foo') g (update display -> 'foo' shown) d (on 'foo', to mark for deletion) x (to delete the file) g (to refresh display) No 'deleted' folder was created. This made me VERY suspicious. So I ran 'which rm'. *duh* As it turns out, I was using 'rm' from Visual Studio.NET (probably provided for makefile compatibility). This needs a '-x' parameter to inhibit the 'deleted' folder. *Sigh* Why they think it's a good idea to make rm behave like that at all, I don't know.
