You could emulate the Internet server inetd by accepting a connection and
then starting a server program, say ftpd, in the *same* DOS box. This
child server would then do the actual work, using the socket created by
the parent program.
Passing sockets across DOS boxes is a very tricky problem.
The passing of sockets to other programs makes a lot more sense when you
can fork() to your hearts content. With DJGPP we'd have to be able to pass
sockets across DOS boxes, to make passing sockets useful.
