At least we gained something constructive from this exchange: we now know that 0 and __null are interchangeable as far as libc is concerned. So we can now DTRT in our headers without fear. I still didn't give up hope to limit the headers taken from GCC to varargs.h and stdarg.h. Let's see how much more offense I'd need to sustain to get there ;-)
