I was hoping for something like this:
fd = open(...);
if (fd == -1)
{
if (errno == ESHARE)
open(...,SH_DENYNO)
else if (errno == ENOFILE)
_creat(...);
else
return -1;
}
That's what I meant about checking for specific errno values, rather
than just avoiding the ones we know are trouble.
