I work with the patch I suggested for the past few months (all the
ports were linked against that version) and never had, or heard, any
problems with it.

So I suggest to include the patch.  I also am ready to reopen the
issue and discuss it now, if anybody feels like it.  I don't remember
if there were any reservations about the patch, but if somebody thinks
it can hurt, please speak up.
