Way too complicated.  I like DJ's suggestion to catch pointers less
than 0x10a8 and forget the rest.  It's a couple of operations when done
as a macro (so essentially zero overhead).  The only reason I suggested
a macro was for maintainability and flexibility (if someone really needs
some other case or has a valid reason to use 0 as an address, then it's
a simple recompile).  It's not even clear someone wants this project
enough to adopt it and do it.
