Subject: Yaseppochi-gumi DJGPP mailing list archive fixed

Once again, I'd like to announce the availability of a (partial)
archive of the DJGPP mailing list. It can be accessed via anonymous
FTP to "turnbull.sk.tsukuba.ac.jp [130.158.99.4]", directory
/pub/djgpp/list-archive (save the numeric IP address, Japanese name
service has been shoddy recently), or via the WWW URL
"http://turnbull.sk.tsukuba.ac.jp/index.html#djgpp". Or you can go to
the top of my index page using the simpler URL
"http://turnbull.sk.tsukuba.ac.jp/".

The archive consists of monthly gzip'd installments of the list going
back to Dec. 1993. The most recent is October 1994. I may or may not
bother to try to keep the current month up-to-date (feedback on this
or any other aspect of the archive is very welcome). Two slightly
larger gzips cover July--mid-Sept 1993 and late Sept--Nov 1993. I
have not yet arranged to prune headers or anything like that; this
weekend I will do that and upload a README with an index by versions.

Also available is the DJGPP v 1.11 compiler suite with GNU C/C++ v
2.5.7 (anonymous FTP directory /pub/djgpp/1.11, same WWW URLs). This
is primarily of interest to a few people who may find the older
version (already removed from Simtel) can solve some problems with the
C++ compiler v 2.6.0 and with linking large sets of objects.

If you use the archive, or merely think it's a good idea, please send
me mail so that I can judge how much time to allocate to improving the
service. If as given above you think it's not much good but the
addition of "one tiny little feature" would *make your day*, let me
know that, too.

Service Outages

I am not yet experienced at this. I have started the ftpd with the
default of one anonymous user, and will increase it gradually to
respond to demand, until it causes a performance degradation.
Recently an improperly specified URL made it impossible for outside
users to get to the archive, but due to some quirk of Mosaic or the
HTTPD I was able to access it and was unaware of the problem. If you
are unable to access the archive for whatever reason, let me know.
Few browsers and servers can distinguish the various reasons access
may be impossible; if you can't access my archive, it could be your
problem, but it's just as likely that I misconfigured something. Tell
me!
