I've compiled some non-LFN friendly projects in the past in DOS7.10 (i.e. Win98SE boot disk) with using doslfn and had no issues. You need a somewhat beefier computer like at least a Pentium 2 as doslfn slows r/w access a little bit, but it's doable.
