Would it help you to run the SW under emulator? AFAIK Dosbox can set emulated CPU type to 386.

DOSBOX.CONF:

[cpu]
#    cputype: CPU Type used in emulation. auto emulates a 486 which tolerates Pentium instructions.
#             Possible values: auto, 386, 486, pentium, 386_prefetch, pentium_mmx.

Hehe, I still keep some 8086, 286, 386... HW in my small PC museum, sometimes is comes handy for testing :)
