Okay, this probably doesn't help, but ...

I've mentioned before that I have a P166. It would be nice to have
Emacs on there, but I'm low on space. So I decided to try to make a
minimal suite of just stuff I thought was useful to me personally.
Anyways, I tested it somewhat on this laptop, and it's only about 4
MB .7z'd or 5 MB .ZIP'd (12 MB unpacked), so it should be fairly easy
for me to transport over and install (eventually). :-)

Maybe this will give you (or someone else) some ideas. For the record,
old old EM1934B.ZIP (bare minimum, hates XP) takes 4 MB unpacked while
old EM2005B.ZIP (full suite, probably too much) takes 24 MB unpacked.
Note that "/etc/doc" (2 MB binary file) is required for function help
descriptions, and I was unable to compress that, but I did compress
efaq and info texinfo docs just to show that auto-compression mode
works. Oh, and I also used "upx --best" only (no LZMA) for fastest
speed. The _emacs isn't really required, but I did turn on visible-
bell so as not to be annoying (hint to XP users: unset USERNAME
first).
