Someday I'd like to build a GCC 1.9 version again and compare on
compile speed.  I remember build times being much less with the 1.9
versions (but optimizations much less, of course).  But that experience
was on non-x86 Unix platforms...

I did have a single floppy GCC 2.2.2 development environment based
on DJGPP 1.08 once (before any compressed exes were available).
