True "-x"...  I've only seen this problem when a file is missing, e.g., cc1,
or when it's in a non-default directory.  IIRC, the path to cc1 was
hardcoded somewhere, probably in gcc.  Sorry, if I haven't been much help.
Let us know if you solve it.
