I guess you didn't see (or weren't interested) that I recompiled it
myself. Oh well, it doesn't take *that* long to recompile it, I
guess.    ;-)

Using UPX 3.02 "--best" seems to (still) work fine in pure DOS (with
my build, at least).

"works without LFN"? You mean recompiling or using? I was able to
build NASM and TDEP with my build yesterday of BinUtils 2.17, and I
didn't need any LFNs.

No SFN system? How about "set LFN=n" or trying a FreeDOS bootdisk?

Not to nitpick, but nobody ever took my suggestion to use
AdvanceComp's ADVZIP tool. It uses 7-Zip's improved Deflate to make
smaller .ZIPs than normal (automatically recompresses in memory), and
it is still compatible with all unzippers. The only caveat (trivial,
IMO) is that it strips extra field info and comments. But since I
don't think you use those, it's moot.

4,740,125 -> 4,601,172 bytes (saves 136k)

You could also just use 7-Zip:  "7za a -mx9 bnu217br1.zip bnudir/"

1,993,706 -> 1,931,735 bytes (saves 60k)

Thanks again for all your efforts! :-)
