The Linux kernel uses sgdt and lcall, so presumably it should work:

RayeR, if you just can't get it to work, you could try compiling the
assembly code in another file with nasm and linking it with the C
code. http://grack.com/writings/misc/InterfacingDJGPPwithNASM.html
seems to be a decent introduction to this.
