And Vista DPMI lies about the available > memory (saying much more than 32MB is available). I've already posted, 16-bit apps are dead on 64-bit Windows. And so are DOS boxes and any DPMI apps. The VGA mode is also dead because its optional from now on and it's unlikely to be supported in the new drivers. So, if DOS still matters, stay with pre-Vista Windows or just DOS or use virtual machines with DOS running in them. Nobody should expect any support from MS on the DOS issues, it's not gonna happen. And btw, these days it's not all that hard to program for Windows as it used to be some 10 years ago. Lots of info is available online and in the books. It will be a bit painful in the beginning, but then it'll be OK. > Avoid Vista until they release something stable. My personal thinking is it should be skipped as Windows ME or employed later when the majority of 3rd parties made compatible drivers and applications. The new MS Office seems to be very good though.
