"-msoft-float" is not supposed to work.  As for -lemu, I think just
linking with the emulator will not cause the emulation to be used on a
machine that has an FP hardware (which all of them do nowdays).  You
need to explicitly force emulation by calling the function
__dpmi_set_coprocessor_emulation (it is documented in the library
reference manual).  Can you try adding that call, link with -lemu, and
see if the problem goes away?
