I recently came across a package of useful console command line
utilities which work with DJGPP (and cygwin) for those who like
alt-tabbing between multiple shell Windows and scripting Windows
operations. 

Diomidis Spinellis' OutWit http://www.dmst.aueb.gr/dds/sw/outwit 
provides binaries, sources, docs for:

docprop		read OLE (Office) document properties
odbc		send SQL to databases and get results
readlink	extract file name from shell shortcuts (.lnk)
readlog		read Windows event logs (not on W95)
winclip		cut/paste Windows clipboard to/from stdin/out/file
winreg		read/write Windows registry
