Many editors automatically remove (or can be set to remove) all tabs (which is normally the best thing to do). Textpad can be configured to change these rules with file extension, and so I set it to retain tabs on files with no extension (e.g. makefiles). The OP may well be installing tabs that are removed on write-out. A hex file display (such as you can get from Buergs 'list') will show it up. -- fix (vb.): 1. to paper over, obscure, hide from public view; 2. to work around, in a way that produces unintended consequences that are worse than the original problem. Usage: "Windows ME fixes many of the shortcomings of Windows 98 SE". - Hutchison
