Eli, thanks for your effort - I'll go through that post later. Now let me just tell what I found out in the meantime: I'm running this in plain DOS from Win98- boot disk. cwsdpmi r5 , gcc version ? (how to find out ? gcc.exe from 15.08.2002) the program also works with -O1 instead of -O2 , it also works when I include a dummy command in the program like i=7; so the problem seems to depend on program-length alone (maybe modulo 65536 ?) and seems to have to do with cwsdpmi. I remember I had some other strange things with cwsdpmi before under NASM Guenter.
