The Canon BJ-10sx I have has very good ESC/P support (complete with
dip switches). This isn't a current model but you can still get ink
cartridges easily and maybe you can find one on ebay, or a newer model
(BJ-20??) with the same ESC/P ability.

This UK supplier still has 79 models of impact printer in stock, and
the cheapest Panasonic one looks very good value by the 2nd or 3rd
ribbon :)
