Whereas user manuals are not the best way to get started, the canonical
way of accessing help and manuals for Perl is via the comand 'perldoc'.
In a more or less complete DJGPP installation, under bash, issuing:

$ perldoc perldoc 

whould put you on the road. For a more gentle and didatical intro, look
for tutorials and training materials at Comprehensive Perl Archive
Network http://www.cpan.org/
