I feel like such an idiot ...It's a long time since i've used Windows. I was ftp'ing the executable to my gateway machine, then sending it on to a friend. Unix doesn't care about the binary/ascii modes, unfortunately Windows does, and I was tranfering in ascii:P Anyway, thanks to both of you for your help .. i've certainly learned a lot more about Windows and C in the progress.
