Hello.
It gives me great pleasure to announce release 4 of the DJGPP port of
Fileutils 4.0. This release is a minor bugfix release. This will be the
last release of Fileutils 4.0 for DJGPP, unless there are any major bugs
found. I will focus on porting Fileutils 4.1 now.
If you build and install packages from source regularly, you may wish to
upgrade, to get the bugfix for the 'ginstall' crash described below.
Here are the changes over release 4:
- gnu/filutil4.0/djgpp/opendir.sh in the source distribution
has been renamed to patchexe.sh. patchexe.sh now performs
more sanity checks on the DJGPP installation, to check that
the patches are actually needed. It will also now work with
gcc 3.x.
Thanks to Eli Zaretskii for patches to fix the following issues:
- ginstall would crash when invoked to install a file with no
extension (such as a shell script).
- "cp -Pp" would print an error message on filesystems that don't
allow setting timestamps of directories.
To use the Fileutils programs, you only need to download the binary
distribution. You may also want to download the documentation
distribution, to get the documentation in HTML, PostScript and DVI
formats. If you want to examine or rebuild the Fileutils sources, you need
to download the source distribution.
The Fileutils port is available here:

Please read the file gnu/filutil4.0/djgpp/readme.dos in whichever
distribution you download. This contains important instructions on
installing and using Fileutils.
You can also read the readme and changelog files online:

A lot of credit for this port must go to Eli Zaretskii, since he provided
me with patches that actually did much of the port for me, and also for
his advice. Thanks also to Jim Meyering, Tim Van Holder, Jason Green,
Laurynas Biveinis, Paul Eggert, Charles Sandmann and JT Williams for their
help. Thanks also to the djgpp-workers.
If you encounter any problems with this port, please feel free to contact
me by e-mail (address below). I also try to read the DJGPP newsgroup,
comp.os.msdos.djgpp, on a regular basis.
Thanks, bye,
