Hi.
I have a really simple problem. I'm writing a graphics program in
Allegro, in 640x480x16 bits using RHIDE/DJGPP on an elderly
machine with a 9420 display card and a PnP monitor.
It all works fine.
But.... it is jaw droppingly annoying. Every time a switch mode,
or single step (unless I turn the dual screen thing off?) there's
what seems like a long wait but is probably about 3 seconds
when the resolution switches... or doesn't. It still happens if
RHIDE is running in the same resolution. Annoyingly I can see
the 'new' display just before it blanks. If I run the program the
first bit comes up fine, then there's the stupid display blank, then
a long wait, then it comes up again.
It doesn't seem bothered about switching to 320x200x8 but
nothing else works. It is driving me nuts.
I've tried turning all the power management junk off. I personally
loathe all this garbage. It's all very well entrusting power
management to Windows, but seeing the ruddy OS can't
reliably turn itself off I think I'll go for a power switch whcih
is connected to the power lines. At work I've got this stupid
HP thing which has no reset or 'real' power off, so sometimes
I just have to pull the plug out the back.
The other machine I use (this one I'm typing on now) just changes
without blanking, clicking and so on.instantly. It's an older
machine.
How do I stop this *!*!*"*!"* behaviour ? I just want it to switch. If
it goes from 640x480x16bits to 640x480x16bits why does the
cretinous pile of junk need to blank *anything* ?
