Before futzing with somebody elses code, I like to check that I can duplicate their results. The quickest way is to do a compile/assemble/whatnot and a binary compare on the final product. I may have to allow for different embedded dates, etc, and may have to play games with directory structures to get the match, but when I do it is quite positive. Now, when I revise something and it doesn't work, I know who to blame. That saves a lot of time and effort. This is also a reason to curse systems that output uninitialized areas full of junk from some other process/file/etc. Microsoft is especially bad. On MsDos I used to have a baby utility that would clear all available memory to eliminate those variables. Not practical nowadays. -- Chuck F (cbfalconer AT yahoo DOT com) (cbfalconer AT XXXXworldnet DOT att DOT net) Available for consulting/temporary embedded and systems.
