That problem only happens when the -fomit-frame-pointer switch is used. There should be no raeson for you to use that switch, so you shouldn't be afraid of upgrading. FWIW, I'm using GCC 3.0.2 for a couple of months with no visible problems, at least as far as C programs are concerned.
