i don;t have any experience building xbase but ...

the configure script should be distributed with the package. switch to 
bash, go to the source directory of the package, and type 
./configure --help
for options.

you can check out 
ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/gnu/djgpp/v2gnu/00_index.txt
for other packages you might need.
