Thanks for the clear advice, Tim.  I was asking because I helped the
awka project with DJGPP configuration and testing, and at the time I
originally did that work, running autoconf was actually needed.

I will do some testing without running autoconf, but using the bash
2.04 config.site, and report back how that works out.
