Fellow DJGPPers:
I feel like an idiot for not thinking of this first.
CVS works fine for me now. I use a partition on my parents'
computer. Several months ago they bought Norton AntiVirus after the
virus protection package that came with their machine expired. At
first, I was trying out public domain virus protection, but one kept
locking up Windows, and the other was a demo that expired after a
month and I didn't feel like reinstalling it every couple of weeks
since I had this Norton CD sitting right there, so I caved in and
installed that.
There is a setting under Norton Internet Security that I had to
adjust to allow CVS to work:
With the NIS window active, I had to choose "Security", "Custom
Level...", "Personal Firewall", "None". I tried Medium, but that also
blocks CVS.
Sorry for wasting your time. I don't know if this is worth
mentioning on the DJGPP CVS page or in the FAQ, since very few people
will play with the sources and anyone who contemplates it will
probably be knowledgeable enough to tweak their virus protector
accordingly. What really makes me feel like an idiot is that I just
blew a week trying to "figure out" what was wrong instead of working
on my programming projects! Oh well, I guess we learn by doing.
Any of you use a free virus protection package that you trust? This
Norton thing isn't going to last forever, and I'm getting my own box
soon anyway, so I don't want to pay the brand-name extortion fee
unless I have to!
Thanks for your help people!
