I am not sure exactly how I missed the upgrade [1] but it is really 
wonderful to have gzip actually able to store the complete LFN as the 
uncompressed name.

It has always been able to see the full name in a gzip -l listing and I 
have never had a problem with gunzip. But I have always had to switch from 
my djgpp environment bash shell into a Windows tool if I wanted to gzip a 
file and have it remember the full name I use in bash.
