Actually, autoexec.bat isn't where you should be looking... ;) In your
autoexec.bat, you should have a SHELL= line. If you have a portion reading
/E:xxxx where xxxx is a number, up it to at least 3072. For example, my
line reads:
shell=c:\windows\command.com /e:3072 /p
I believe this is covered in the FAQ somewhere... Check it for further
info. Otherwise check out your DOS's help command/documentation.
