Essentially, there is no maximum array size "in gcc". The mechanisms it employs to implement the C programming language's array subscripting probably result in an effective maximum, but that isn't going to be your problem. It isn't gcc you want to worry about, it's the C or C++ that you are writing. I suggest you post a short example of the code that doesn't work in this newsgroup (or, better, comp.lang.c) and someone may be able to help you. Ian
