It's possible, but you need to point the TMPDIR environment variable to a directory on a writable drive. By default, DJGPP.ENV sets TMPDIR to the `tmp' subdirectory of the main DJGPP installation directory. Note that this is in the FAQ, right in section 1 which explains how to install DJGPP.
