The least expensive and most painless way of learning C that I know of is via
the "C for Dummies" books, volumes 1 and 2.  Clearly explained and engaging: 
it even managed to teach C to my daughter, who had a little prior experience
with QBasic and HTML.  Of course, you have to actually -write- programs in
order to learn... plan to spend a lot of time on that.	Good luck!
