2.8.1 is a *very* old GCC version, and its C++ support is extremely
limited.

You need to uninstall the previous GCC version, before you install the
new one. Please read carefully the README.dos file supplied with the
GCC distribution, and do as it instructs.
Note that you need to download both gcc2952b.zip and gpp2952b.zip, not
only the latter.
