Hello!
I am working at a school computer lab with a LAN running MS-DOS/Novell.
Recently, the Business Software Alliance have been breathing down the
necks of the school's top brass urging them to "licence" all software.
Buckeroo$ for BSA members!!!
The school's MS-DOS/Novell system is licenced, however, the compilers
installed on this system are unlicenced (read: pirated) copies. The
school's top brass is looking for alternatives, cheaper ones at that.
I first looked at installing Gnu/Linux, but the cost of hardware upgrades
and staff training are prohibitively expensive. So I decided to install
DJGPP instead. Cheaper and easier.
The LAN is set up as a single server with 50 clients running as diskless
workstations. So DJGPP is installed in single directory on the server, and
it is shared by the clients.
I have installed the following DJGPP packages:
faq230b.zip, djdev203.zip, upx101d.zip, rhide14b.zip, txt20b.zip,
fil316b.zip, gcc2952b.zip, gdb418b.zip, gpp2952b.zip, mak3781b.zip,
mak379s.zip, shl112b.zip, txi40b.zip, bnu210b.zip
I would also like to install Gnu Emacs, but I am worried about file
sharing. I want to configure Emacs so that it remembers the places in
files that it has been to (_places). I have already thought one way of
doing this, which is to modify _emacs to write _places into the
appropriate user's home directory. As an aside, are there more issues
that I should be aware of when using/installing DJGPP on Novell networks?
And oh yes, I've read the FAQ. I installed DJGPP July 1, 2000 so far no
serious problems.
Thanks in advance. Your help will help the proliferation of Free
Software throughout the Philippines.
