which is about what you'll probably have found on that CDROM.

No worry: gpp only exists in more recent versions of the packages.

Use that, then. Or upgrade your installation.

Not 'purely', but that's what it's intended for, yes. 'gcc' can nicely
compile C++ files already. Only for linking C++ programs together, you
need the additional libraries that 'gxx' automatically puts in.
