I'm guessing that you are using CWSDPMI as your DPMI server. If so, you should know that CWSDPMI supports only 256MB of swap space, and has bugs beyond 128MB. So you cannot use those 800MB of disk space, in practice you are limited to about 180MB (in your case). Also, if you allocate memory in many small chunks, CWSDPMI might run out of its internal space for tables where it tracks memory, and then it won't allocate more memory for your program. The DJGPP FAQ explains in section 15.4 how to increase the internal heap size of CWSDPMI if your program allocates memory in small chunks.
