Hello out there!

Could anybody tell me reasons why Allegro's function textout and textprintf
may fail? (with fail I mean that there is no textoutput visible on my
screen)
I've tried the famous first example of Allegro's "Hello world!" on two
different plattforms modified in the way, that I used "GFX_AUTODETECT" when
set_gfx_mode() is called.
Could anybody help me? Thanks in advance and
