There are viruses for Linux, but they aren't that numerous. There are also
virus scanners for Linux. I can't remember any links offhand, but
http://www.securityfocus.com/ must have a link somewhere.
You can overwrite system executable on Linux, you just have to know what
exploit to use. The idea that there can be no viruses for Linux and Unices
is a fallacy. It's just much, much harder.
