Both WinAmp and MPXPLAY (for DOS) give figures of 12 or 13% usage.

That's good - but is there any program for DOS/Win9x which will read a Linux
partition?

"Win97"?

Well the strange thing is it works fine if I boot to DOS or Win9x, but under
a Windows 2000 DOS-prompt it doesn't work at all. I tried both a Sound
Blaster Live and an ESS AudioDrive.

I may well give it a try. Just been downloading RedHat, got the ISO of it
now. Can you recommend CD-writing software which can burn .ISO files?

I assume that means that WINE doesn't emulate DirectX then.
