Win2k has known issues running ld (the DJGPP linker).  Try dual-
booting to real DOS, which you can get free for non-commercial use at
  http://www.lineo.com/

At least Microsoft has committed to fixing over 30,000 issues in
Win2k, which is more than it can say for 98.
