Doug,Thanks for the tip about the pdcurses_bios setting. omega which is a
d&d game used to be lots less talkative without that setting. Interesting
though, the setup screens must run with different coding than the game board
itself. When I get onto the setup screens everything goes quiet so I have
to use some exploratory techniques to find out what's happening. But when
setup is finished, the game board now talks fine. Other things in djgpp
like less also use curses too so this is a big help. Before Christmas I had
djgpp running and talking on this system. After Christmas the info program
just goes into deep space when it's run and locks up the keyboard. The
three fingered salute doesn't work nor does control-break to drop back out
to dos. gcc is misbehaving in the same way too and so far as I can tell
nothing has been changed in terms of installation or memory management.
