Microsoft Windows NT has a "feature" called the hardware abstraction
layer that prevents DOS programs from touching the hardware directly.
However, DOS programs need to access the video card in order to
program it for high-resolution (> VGA) graphics.

To use a resolution higher than 320x200, make a Win32 program that
uses DirectX. If you're using the Allegro library, simply recompile
using the version of Allegro designed for the RSXNTDJ addon or a
different GCC port (Allegro mailing list regulars prefer Mingw32).
