This is to announce that the DJGPP port of version 340 of the GNU
Less package is available from SimTel.NET mirrors worldwide:

Less is a text file browser and much more. In addition to features that
you'd expect (paging up and down through the file, searching, marking
places and jumping between them, viewing several files in a single
session), it also provides many unusual extensions. Examples include
file-name completion, ability to invoke arbitrary shell commands or pipe
parts of the file to those commands, fully customizable key bindings, etc.
The DJGPP version uses colors to designate bold, underlined, and
inverse-video text.
The changes since the previous version 332 are mostly bugfixes and a
couple of new minor features; see the file NEWS for details. Some of the
bugs that are now fixed are DJGPP-specific: Less no longer leaves the
console in raw mode when invoking subsidiary programs, and does not
truncate the value of the LESS environment variable when running
subprograms. Horizontal scrolling now works correctly.
The lessecho program is now part of the distribution. It is not really
needed in the DJGPP environment, but since the original GNU package
installs it unconditionally, I decided to include it in lss34b.zip.
Less used to support DJGPP right out of the box, but this support has
somewhat deteriorated lately, due to several changes that were made in
DJGPP-specific parts but never reported to any DJGPP forum (AFAIK). So
this port is slightly different from the official GNU release.
Please direct any further discussions about this port to
comp.os.msdos.djgpp news group (or write to its e-mail gateway
djgpp AT delorie DOT com).
