it's a server that checks mail for words that are not allowed.

If these machines run FreeBSD/Linux you shouldn't have any problem. But you
probably have, because you ask this question...

Well, anywhere/everywhere... Depends on the BIOS

You need source code to do that, or edit it using assembler, so you have
to use some kind of disassembler + [TMN]ASM
