I would agree with you for a large percentage of the things one might do
with a C++ complied and associated tools. However, there are some things
I do where handling file names comes up, and the forward slashes and
in the case of NT the long file names cause a lot of grief. I've received
a LOT of help here, for which I am very grateful. Nothing that I'm saying
should
be construed as ungrateful. Most often, however, the help consisted of
leading me farther from DOS/Windows and closer to UNIX. For good or
for bad, that is the fact. I'm often in the position of having to make
things
work in a variety of environments, including UNIX. While I know I can solve
problems by importing things across platforms (e.g., use mv instead of
move,
gmake instead of nmake, etc.), I don't always think this is a good idea.
